Meat Me in the Middle; A Bag to Share (2022) echoes the spirit of Eid-al-Adha through one of the holiday’s main aspects - the sharing of meat. This process, known as Qurbani, is a mandatory element of Eid in which every individual arranges meat to be distributed in three parts: one for the supplier, one for friends, family, or neighbours, and one for those in need. Through this cyclical nature of sharing, one may be both the giver and receiver of Qurbani. Depicting this process as well as a whimsical landscape of meat vegetation, I aimed to present my feelings of fondness for the holiday, the connections and sense of community it brings, and the importance of the ways in which we view and interact with both our planet and the people living on it.

This project was created for Kanken’s Art Auction for a Cause. By donating the funds of this bag to Ottawa’s Sadaqa Food Bank, the buyer of this bag also replicates the act of food sharing, taking part in this crucial element of celebrating Eid.
