Aishah - Emilie - Annika

We are a trio that met during our first year in the BFA program at uOttawa (2018). We began collaborating in our media technology classes during our second year of studies. We all have a shared interest in creating immersive experiences, but our practices drastically vary in terms of techniques, styles and backgrounds.

Aishah’s artistic practice focuses on traditional painting and mixed media. Often referencing her mixed Iranian-American identity and how it ties into her faith-based Islamic background, her work touches on recurring themes of identity, representation, otherness, coverings, fabric, and the notion of private vs public spaces.

Emilie’s art practice explores the psychological notions of childhood, memory, and the construction of personal identity. Her work varies in materials such as oil paint to various forms of media technology based on the conceptual idea behind each piece.

Annika’s practice incorporates her search for cultural identity and her passion for all things culinary. She blurs the boundaries of the art canon, creates intricate media art pieces, while challenging traditional materials and authorship along the way.

Together, we experiment with materials and ideas until we reach places we never could have without each of our brains. We are addicted to team based conceptualizing and the lengths we can extend and stretch notions.

Our network of three conjures up works that express our abilities and skills we have as individuals, as well as the warmth that exists within our friendship.
